Ahe Great Coffee Project is committed to reforestation, and we are proud to partner with Ecologi to plant a tree with every purchase. Reforestation is important for many reasons, but one of the most pressing is the need to restore natural habitats that have been lost due to deforestation.
In Madagascar, deforestation has been a major problem due to slash-and-burn farming practices. This has led to the loss of valuable forest cover, which in turn has had a devastating impact on local wildlife .The Great Coffee Project is working to help reforestation efforts in the aquifer of Madagascar, planting trees in areas that were previously deforested for farming. This will help to restore the natural habitat and provide a home for local wildlife.
Reforestation is also essential in the fight against climate change. Trees play a vital role in sequestering carbon dioxide, one of the main greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. By planting trees, we are helping to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and combat climate change.

Why Plant Trees?

Capture Carbon Emissions
Trees have an amazing ability to absorb carbon from the atmosphere and store it in their biomass. Reforestation ranks highly in terms of climate change solutions. Every little bit makes a difference.

Create Habitats
Reforestation creates habitats for animals, many of which are imperiled by habitat destruction. Trees also produce food for some species, including humans. This is important because if we lose these habitats - and the plants and animals that depend on them.

Prevent Erosion
Trees slow water runoff, reducing soil erosion. This is important because soil erosion can damage aquatic ecosystems, and because soil carries polluting nutrients and chemicals into our waterways.
